Gillespie announces retirement to join ICL

Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie announced his retirement from first-class cricket in Australia on Friday. Local media reported that Gillespie, 32, had signed a three-year contract with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL).

"I have invited you here to finally put an end to the speculation and officially announce my retirement from first-class cricket in Australia," Gillespie told a news conference in Adelaide.

"Cricket has been very good to me. I have travelled the world, I have met some fantastic people, and I have spent my time doing the thing I love the most - playing cricket.

"But it has always been important to me to end my career on my own terms, while I am still contributing. I do not want to get tapped on the shoulder and shown the door.

"And the time has come. I have a young family to consider. My daughter has reached her teens, I have travelled for all of her life, I think it is time I was around for her, and her brothers and my wife."

Gillespie is Australia's sixth-highest test wicket taker with 259 victims at an average of 26.13 in 71 matches.

He formed a formidable new-ball partnership with Glenn McGrath from 2002-05 and was capable of bowling long spells with consistent line and length.

SRK wants Dhoni in Kolkata team, Ganguly does not

The image “http://cinema.nits.in/wp-includes/images/wlw/SharukhandDhoniwillbeseentogetherinAd_11552/dhoni1.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

SRK : Not shooting for any film currently, is giving all his time and attention to cricket after he won the bid of the Kolkata Indian Premier League team for nearly Rs 300 crore (Rs 3,000 million).

From a source I came to know that SRK trying his best to buy the India's ODI captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. They had starred together in a Videocon ad and since then have developed a close friendship. Apparently, Dhoni was the most sought after player in the IPL, the Board of Control for Cricket in India's multi-million dollar Twenty20 league, which is scheduled to start on April 18.

The players auction took place in Mumbai on February 20, and Dhoni's asking price was reported around $400,000 (about Rs 1.6 crore). It is now clear that Dhoni will not join SRK's team considering the fact that it is being led by former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who is keen on having Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist in his team.

Ganguly and Dhoni are not in the best of terms after the former was not picked for the ongoing tri-series in Australia. It is alleged that Dhoni was unhappy with Ganguly's fitness and hence, did not want him in the team.

Another player that SRK wants in his team was Shoaib Akhtar. This Pakistani fast bowler joined his team for US $ 425,000.

IPL Teams - Players sold out

Mumbai: India skipper Mahendra Dhoni and Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds went for astronomical amounts as the Indian Premier League (IPL) conducted the much hyped auction of top international players in Mumbai.

Dhoni, who led India to a tremendous triumph in the Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa last year, was picked by Chennai Superkings for a whopping $ 1.5 million (Rs 6 crore). The surprise of the day though was Symonds, who was bought by Hyderabad for $ 1.35 million (Rs 5.4 crore) despite being unpopular in the country because of his recent spat with Indian players.

Dhoni, the only top Indian player not to figure among the icon players (who are not up for bids and will play for their home teams) was a prime property and was lapped up in what was the highest bid in the first list of players and gave the team the big Indian name they missed owing to the absence of an icon player.
